The Goh-Ohn Bell commemorating the 100^th year centennial of the first Japanese Canadian, Manzo Nagano, at the site once known as Ontario Place. 

The belfry, designed by the late Raymond Moriyama of Moriyama & Teshima Architects was celebrated as a spiritual consolidation of resilience and strength of a thriving community.

Every New Year’s Eve, the bell would be struck 108 times in Buddhist ceremony to commemorate the past, present, and future. 

46 years later, on the eve of its dismantling, I went to ring the bell for the first and last time with my children, listening to the complex ringing travel in endless overtones across the sky like material matter made spiritual again. 

While the bell now sits in a storage container, mute, we imagined the ringing tones reverberating across the universe like an eternal message.
